Rain: Death toll rises to five in Kerala

Incessant rain started on Friday night, has claimed five lives in Southern Kerala.

Several low-lying areas in the southern districts are flooded. The rain is due to  'Thane', the cyclonic storm, which entered Tamilanadu on friday.

New year celebrations in several districts have been cancelled, including that on Alappuzha beach.

Train services have also been affected.

Army recruitment rally in Ernakulam

Army recruiting office, Trivandrum, will conduct a recruitment rally, in Ernakulam from Jan. 16 to Jan. 23, to select soldiers. Aspirants from the following districts can parcipate: Trivandrum, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki. Recruitment will be in the following categories of soldiers: 1. Government has sanctioned two new Super Speciality courses (DM Endocrinology and DM Neonatology) in Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum. Both the courses have two seats each.

Special train to Chennai

A special train will be run from Nagarcoil to Chennai, via Kottayam on Jan. 1, 2012, to meet the vacation rush. The train will start journey at 3 p.m from Nagarcoil and will reach Chennai next morning at 9.35.

Nurse's test postponed

Nurses test, as part of the Arogyakeralam project, scheduled for Dec. 27 has been postponed to Dec. 31, 2012.

Spot admission to vacant seats in the five-year-LLB course 2011-12 has been extended to January 7, 2012.  State government has authorized  the respective college principals to fill seats from the merit  list prepared by the Entrance Commissioner.

Aadhar card accepted in Railways

The Indian Railway will accept Aadhar card as an Identification Document for booking e-ticket and tatkal.
Tatkal facility will be made avilable in  Duronto express trains from April, 2012.

State Government has decided to raise monthly pension amount of small scale farmers to Rs. 400. Head of the family, who is above 60 years, will be the beneficiary.

A semi Govt. institution in Kerala has the vacancy of 53 Blacksmiths (temporary). ITI (blacksmith) certificate holders should register at the nearest Employment Exchange before Jan4. It is not clear, in which category the vacancies fall.

Thiruvairanikkulam nada thurappu

The famous nada thurappu festival at Thiruvairanikkulam Mahadeva temple, Kalady, will be celebrated from January 8 to 19, 2012. The festival is very famous in central Kerala, in which the sanctum sanctorum of Sree Parvathy will be opened for worship, only twelve days a year.

Power cut again

Half-hour power cut has been slapped from today (Saturday) to Monday between 6 pm and 10.30 pm. Sabarimala and other important places are excluded.
