Hibi Eden weds Anna Linda

Hibi Eden MLA tied knot with Anna Linda from Thamarayoor, near Guruvayoor after three years courting. Anna, a former TV anchor met Hibi when she approached him for an interview four years ago. The venue of the wedding was St Francis Xavier Church in Kaloor, Ernakulam.

Computer-generated certificates acceptable

Computer-generated income certificates and caste certificates from Village offices of  kannur and Palakkadu districts, which are e-districts, will be accepted for Engineering-Medical Entrance Exam, the Entrance Commissioner has informed.

C. Achutha Menon memorial stamp

Government of India will issue a stamp in memory of  C. Achutha Menon, in view of  the birth centenary celebration of the great Communist leader, parliamentarian and former Chief Minister of Kerala, informed C.K. Chandrappan, State Secretary of CPI.
 
C Achutha Menon Study Centre is organising  year-long  celebrations, as part of which, a national seminar, discourse series, debates, writing competitions, medical camps, photo exhibition will be conducted.

Kerala Governor passes away


The Kerala Governor M.O.H. Farook passed away this evening at 9.10 in Chennai. He was 75 and  was on treatment at Apollo hospital, Chennai, for kidney failure.

The State government has declared holiday tomorrow and will observe seven days mourning. In Trivandrum district, the holiday has been extended to central government offices also.  

Farook, three-time chief minister of Pondichery, was sworn in as the Governor of Kerala on August 25, 2011. He had served the Central Ministry two times.

Azhikkode, a Colossus in the war of words

Words tempered in fire... coated with love... all darting precisely towards the bulls eye.... Kerala will never see such an orator in the near future. Dr. Sukumar Azhikode stood as  a colossus in Kerala's literary and social world, with his powerful interventions in almost any subject, for more than six decades. 


He passed away this morning at 6.35 at Amala hospital, Trissur. He was 85.

He was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 7, 2011, due to falling Sodium level in blood and was later diagnosed with cancer.

Dr. Ashikkode, the former pro-vice-chancellor of Calicut University and ex-chairman of the National Book Trust, also served many news papers as Editor and Editor-in-chief.

Azhikode's most famous work 'Tathvamasi'  published in 1984, an authoritative book on Indian Philosophy, Vedas and Upanishads, has won many awards including Central Sahithy Academy Award

Dubai, Delhi centres for Kerala Medical-Engineering Entrance Exam

The Kerala Medical - Engineering Entrance Exam 2012 will be conducted from Apr. 23 to Apr. 26 this year in 300 centres, including Dubai and Delhi. Online applications can be submitted from today up to Feb. 14. The print outs of online applications should be sent to the Entrance Commissioner's Office so as to reach there before 5 pm on Feb. 15. Violence in Thrissur district hartal

Thrissur district is observing 24 hour hartal today, on a call by the action council opposing toll collection in Mannuthi - Edappally national highway. Violent incidents and stone pelting have been reported. State youth festival has not been affected. The hartal is up to 6 am on Wednesday.

Holiday in Cherthala

Regional holiday has been declared in Cherthala, Alappuzha district, on Jan. 20, in view of Arthunkal Church festival.

Tool-down strike on Feb. 28

Nation-wide tool-down strike will be observed in India on Feb. 28, on calls by fifteen trade unions, "against the policies of retrograde liberalization that are attacking the interests of workers and employees."

The striking organizations include BMS, AITUC, INTUC, CITU and HMS. Banks, Insurance, Telecommunications, State Government  employees, Teachers and Central Government Employees are all expect to participate in the strike called under the aegis of "The United Indian Working Class."

University exams, interview postponed

Two minutes restriction in Nedumbassery

Passenger cars will be restricted with two minutes parking time, in front of terminals, in Nedumbassery International Airport, from Jan. 16, 2012. Violators will be punished with Rs. 1000 fine.

Kodungallur thalappoli begins today

Sree Kurumba Bhagavathi temple, Kodungallur, celebrates four day thalappoli festival from today (Saturday). Commencement of the festival is marked by firing of 1001 barrel crackers (kathina vedi) and neyvilakku.

Thrissur  District collector has declared holiday on 18th of this month, in Kodugallur Taluk, in view of thalappoli celebrations.

C.B. Chandrababu to continue in Alappuzha

C.B. Chandrababu will continue as the secretary of CPM Alappuzha district committee. The G. Sudhakaran faction gained majority in the 43 member committee with 28 members.

CPI State Conference

CPI State Conference will be held in Kollam from Feb. 8 to Feb11., 2012.  General Secretary A.B. Bardhan will inaugurate the conference at C. Kesavan memorial  Town Hall at 10 am on Feb. 8. The last State Conference held in Kollam was 37 years ago.

B.Tech Lateral entry

Students can now apply for B.Tech lateral entry in various Govt. and self financing engineering colleges. Applications via post can be submitted up to Feb. 25. Admission is based on an entrance test.

Renowned sculptor Appukkuttan Koothattukulam passed away this evening in perumbavoor. He was 48. His famous sculptures include, Pieta near Muvattupuzha, Chembai in Palakkad. He was undergoing treatment for kidney problem in a private hospital in Perumbavoor

Hartal in Chengannur

Hartal will be observed today (Monday), from 6 am to 6 pm, in Chengannur in protest against the manhandling of P.C. Vishnunath MLA by CPM activists. The incident took place in Kuttamperur, yesterday at 4 pm, when Vishnunath tried to inaugurate a road, against the will of CPM activists.

Muslim Girls Scholarship for more students

Muslim girl students, whose annual family income  not exceeding 4.5 Lakhs, can now avail 'Muslim Girls Scholarship' from the Govt. of Kerala. Earlier the income limit was 2.5 Lakhs.

Piravom election before April 30

The Central Election Commission of India has informed the High court of Kerala that the by-election at Piravom Constituency will be before April 30. Bypoll was necessitated following the death of T M Jacob, Kerala Congress (Jacob) leader and minister on October 30 last year.

The controversial self-styled Godman  Santhosh Madhavan, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court of India.  He has been remanded in jail in some cases related to rape of minor girls.

The government of Kerala has banned advertisements of  Musili Power X-tra, the controversial aphrodisiac, but renewed license to manufacture the drug. No bail to Madani

The supreme court of India has rejected the bail plea of  PDP supremo Abdul Nazar Madani, in Bangalore explosion case. The court directed the special  court to speed up the trial and  also to provide medical treatment in the Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. Madani has been remanded in Parappana Jail in Bangalore since August, 2010.
